Sandwich Fridays — The Droopy

A sandwich with potential...

A cut sandwich with roast beef, french's fried onions, horseradish mayo, and arugula on a seeded hero.

The Droopy is a sandwich that sounds better on paper than it is in execution.

Filled with roast beef, french's fried onions, horseradish mayo, and arugula on a seeded hero—I expected to get hit with a bit of the crunch of the french onion and arugula, paired with the tang of the horseradish, while also enjoying some good roast beef. Instead, what I got was something that accomplished maybe half of that.

I want to start off and say that this sandwich isn't bad. I'm not sure if the sandwich I got was due to someone having an off day, but I wasn't really thrilled biting into a (toasted?) seeded hero that felt half-baked with the lackluster amount of filling. I get more roast beef in a sandwich from my bodega.

Flavor wise it was pretty solid, I just wish it had more. Texture was a bit of a downer for me, because of the crunch of the toasted bread. Nowhere does it say on the menu that it's toasted, so I was confused on how crunchy the bread was. This threw off the balance of the ingredients, creating a stark mouth feel for me. As for structure, it was fine but like the Ollie—it's not like there was a lot of ingredients in it that would make the structure a challenge anyway, especially with it's lack of filling.

I'm upset writing this because I think this sandwich has SO much potential to be great, and there is a real chance that I may have gotten a flop. Load up some more roast beef, give me more french onion, and don't toast the bread (it's not needed). I know some colleagues of mine might be disappointed with this review, but I have full intention in revisiting this sandwich in the future to give it another go.
